Introducing the Lotus Exige Race 380: A Purpose-Built Speedster for the Race Track

Lotus Cars has done it again! The Lotus Exige Race 380 has been launched and it definitely lives up to expectations. It’s time to delve deeper into the features of this new hardtop, which is perfect for racing on the track.

Similar to previous Lotus track models, the new Exige Race 380 is not street legal. With a starting price of $145,000, it is the most affordable mid-engined race car compared to offerings from Lamborghini, Porsche, and Ferrari. The hardtop is optimized for the track, with a 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.2 seconds and improved speed and agility over its predecessor. Equipped with standard features such as drivetrain and driver information systems, the Exige Race 380 is designed for Lotus Cup series and clubman championships. It boasts a 3.5 liter supercharged V6 engine that generates 375 hp at 6,700 rpm and an Xtrac 6-speed sequential transmission that adds to the car’s overall performance.

The Exige Race 380 is a cutting-edge car that offers various features to make it suitable for racing. The latest model has been designed innovatively to make it lighter, with a dry weight of just 988 kg. To reduce the weight, the car no longer has road car headlights and airbags and instead has some parts made from polycarbonate and carbon fiber materials. Moreover, the car generates more downforce at 170 mph, thanks to the addition of vents in the front bodywork around the front wheels. A front splitter has also been incorporated to lower pressure below the car, while the rear wing effectively reduces airflow at the back. Overall, the Exige Race 380 is an excellent choice for racing enthusiasts who want a high-performance race car.

The Exige 380 has a titanium exhaust in the center that plays two roles – it lightens the car by 10 kg and produces a more attractive engine noise. Additionally, it comes with several racing accessories like a roll cage, a carbon fiber seat that can be adjusted to fit a HANS device, a fire extinguisher, tow hooks, and a battery isolator. The car also has the capability of being connected to standard telemetry through the GPS system onboard.

What sets the Exige Race 380 apart from other race cars on the track? It’s not its appearance, which can be described as rugged at best. The focus during production was on reducing weight and increasing speed by using lighter components, removing some altogether, and optimizing aerodynamics. Lotus Cars once again demonstrates their ability to create ingeniously designed race cars. Although the Exige Race 380 may not win over anyone with its looks, racing it is sure to provide an exciting experience that only race car enthusiasts can truly appreciate.
